We enjoyed a fun Sunday in the HSC Dome this past weekend with a very unique training session...a highly technical and demanding, College ID Clinic.
The 40+ eager participants were asked by Coach Holzer and Coach Reilly to not only challenge themselves physically, but mentally. Right off the bat, the players were told this session was designed so you can experience what it takes to play at the college level and beyond. With Division I and professional playing experience by each coach respectively, the coaches wanted to push everyone to the max on Sunday so they could get a feel of what to expect in the not too distant future.
Each player went through a series of soccer drills and fitness challenges. We wanted to make sure they learned the importance of their first touch, spacing with and without the ball, and of course, communication. Participants took part in passing, 1v1, and game-like drills. In addition to soccer-based training, the group was asked to perform many different agility and conditioning tasks so they understood how vital it is to be in premier shape when being a collegiate athlete.
At the end of the session, all the family members and parents had nice conversations with both coaches on how to best prepare for the next steps. The coaches answered any questions and provided key insights on how to get ready for college athletics including fitness and being mentally strong. They explained what they look for from players on the technical side and how everyone needs to do their best to set themselves apart from their peers.
We hope everyone enjoyed their time at the College ID Clinic and we look forward to you joining us for many similar events in the future. If you haven’t yet, be sure to take a look at all of our upcoming clinics and camps. See you on the field soon!
